The Show Starts Here

I’ve camped my way across the country from Georgia to Washington and back in my tiny teardrop camper. Safe to say I’m not afraid of a little adventure to get to you.

Welcome

I'm Kyra <3

My approach to photography has always been rooted in authenticity. I’m a storyteller by nature as someone who grew up listening to stories swapped around the campfire. My art is rooted in the good parts of Southern culture; think the classic Southern charm and hospitality but in a safe and inclusive space. Everyone is welcome here. I treat my clients like old friends, taking the time to get to know you so we can bring your vision to life.

Photography should always be a collaborative experience. Show me your vision board, send me all the reference photos. I’ll go through it all so those final images are uniquely yours and feel like YOU. Crimson Conure is your place to feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. And trust me, I know how hard that can be. After years spent in front of the camera myself getting over camera anxiety, I know exactly how to help you through it.

The Experience

The best photos are found in movement, and honestly, sometimes the cringy moves get the best results. To be cringe is to be free, and I'll laugh alongside you the whole time. <3 My sessions are designed to help you loosen up and have fun being in front of the camera. No stiff or bullshit poses. No fake smiles. My sessions don’t feel like a photoshoot; they’re more like just hanging out but you happen to get some awesome photos out of it!

A thoughtful approach to timeless storytelling

Where the Story Started

Every photographer starts somewhere. Mine started long before I even owned a “real” camera.

Here are a few photos from when I was a kid, back when I was the one being dragged in front of the camera. I remember feeling awkward, and I hated getting photos taken.

Those memories are a big part of why I work the way I do now! I don't think that everyone deserves to be posed the same way. I learn from your style, and adjust my posing to each session to offer a unique experience that highlights you in your best light.

So in a weird way, these childhood photos are where my photography journey started. They remind me exactly why I do things differently today.

How I travel to you

My car and camper setup makes it much easier, and usually much cheaper than flying a photographer out for your wedding, elopement, or session. It gives me the freedom to travel more flexibly, stay closer to the location, and keep destination photography from feeling as complicated or expensive as it usually does. I also genuinely love the adventure of it, so getting to the mountains, the desert, a small town, or wherever your day is happening is part of what I enjoy most about this work. It is one of the reasons I love photographing weddings and elopements across Georgia, Colorado, Montana, Atlanta, Denver, and beyond.

*Before you ask, I do stay in a hotel the night before weddings, so I’m not rolling up half alive from the road!

So I’ve told you about Crimson Conure Photography...

The inspiration behind my brand is my crimson-bellied conure, Tarpley. She’s been my partner in crime since I was 16, and yes I have a tattoo of her on her favorite place to sit. Birds are weird, unpredictable, and headstrong. Yes Tarpley talks, yes she curses, and she is not scared to let you know what’s on her mind. She can be shy when first meeting someone, but she loves being the center of attention. Once she gets to know you, she’ll laugh at your jokes, beg for head scratches, and even purr. Tarpley has her own taste in music and will scream if she doesn’t like your song choice. She loves watching me play video games and laughing at me when I lose. The fun part is, birds mimic the sounds they hear, so she laughs at me in my own voice… Having a bird is not for the faint of heart.

My style has evolved with me over the years but my color palette has always been inspired by the vibrant blues and greens of her feathers. Tarpley’s personality represents a lot of my photography style; bold, vibrant, fun and real.
