A surprise proposal in North Georgia
J + C’s proposal was already special because it was my very last session before moving from Georgia to Denver, but I think the way the whole thing unfolded made me love it even more.
J had planned to propose to C overlooking the vineyard at Montaluce Winery, and C had absolutely NO idea what was coming. My second photographer and I got there early, found our spots, and waited for them to make their way outside.
They ended up being about an hour later than expected because J wanted to do their wine tasting before they walked around the property, which was honestly so cute and very fitting for a winery proposal lol.
So we waited.
And it was SO worth it.
The second they finally walked out toward the vineyard, everything fell into place. J got down on one knee with that gorgeous Montaluce view behind them, and C was completely surprised.
Like actually surprised.
Those are my favorite proposals to photograph because you get to watch someone realize what’s happening in real time. The confusion, the “wait... OH MY GOD,” the laughing, the tears, staring at the ring over and over afterward... all of it.
And J + C were just ridiculously adorable together.
They’re goofy, sweet, and clearly so comfortable with each other, so once the secret was finally out, the rest of the session felt super easy. We wandered around Montaluce, took advantage of the bright afternoon light, and let them actually enjoy being newly engaged.
Then they got to go right back to their wine tasting and celebrate properly, which felt very correct for the occasion.
Being my last Georgia session before moving made this one feel extra special too. I had spent years photographing couples around Atlanta and North Georgia, and getting to finish that chapter with two people this excited about each other was such a sweet way to leave.
Okayyyy now go look at them.

J + C were seriously the cutest, and I love how much of their actual personalities made it into these photos. The proposal itself was emotional and sweet, but right after, they were back to laughing and being goofy together.
That’s always what I want from proposal photography.
Obviously, the moment someone gets down on one knee matters. But I love everything right after it just as much, when the nerves disappear and you get to watch two people realize they’re actually ENGAGED.
There’s a ring to stare at approximately 500 times. There are calls to make. There’s laughing because somebody somehow managed to keep a giant secret.
And then you get to just enjoy it.
That’s one of the things I love about a Montaluce Winery proposal. It doesn’t have to feel like you showed up, proposed, took a few photos, and left. You can make an entire date out of it.
For J + C, that meant wine, the vineyard, a surprise proposal, and getting to spend the rest of the day celebrating together.
Pretty hard to beat.
This session also happened right before I moved to Denver, so it’ll always be one of those galleries that marks a really big transition for me. Now I’m based in Colorado photographing weddings, engagements, and proposals around Denver and beyond, but I still travel back to Georgia and will always have such a soft spot for the couples I get to photograph there.
