A relaxing summer maternity session
M + P were my very first Colorado session after moving to Denver, which automatically makes this one a little extra special to me.
They wanted their engagement photos to feel like an actual afternoon at home together, and I could not have asked for a better way to start photographing couples in Colorado. Their house was cozy, colorful, full of records, instruments, and four very important little roommates.. their two dogs and two cats.
Music is a huge part of M + P’s relationship too. P actually proposed to M at a music festival, so it only made sense to bring a little bit of that into their engagement session. They pulled out some of their favorite indie and folk records, listened to music together, and just hung out while I photographed everything as it happened.
They’re both a little more reserved and easygoing, so this kind of session fit them SO well. There wasn’t any pressure to suddenly become a different version of themselves just because a camera was there.
We just hung out, and I lovedddd how laid-back it was.
One of my favorite parts was when P started playing the keyboard and both dogs immediately got excited and jumped up to join him. It was such a tiny, normal thing, but those are always the photos I end up loving the most.
The records, the keyboard, their animals, their colorful home - all of it actually belonged to their life together. Nothing had to be added just to make the photos feel interesting.
That’s exactly why I love in-home engagement sessions so much. Your home already has your personality built into it. You don’t have to invent a version of your relationship for photos.
For M + P, that meant indie records playing in the background, their animals wandering in and out, cozy corners of their home, and getting to celebrate this new little engaged era in a place that already felt completely like them.
Andddd it was my first Colorado engagement session. No pressure or anything!!!

I think what I love most about M + P’s gallery is how comfortable it feels.
They didn’t need a huge activity list or some elaborate location to make the session special. It was just the two of them at home, listening to music, loving on their pets, and being happy about the fact that they were getting married.
The festival proposal is such a fun part of their story, but I love that their engagement photos show the quieter side of it too.
There’s the huge, exciting moment where somebody proposes at a music festival.
And then there’s the version where you’re home listening to vinyl, P sits down at the keyboard, the dogs immediately lose their minds, and the cats are somewhere nearby doing whatever cats feel like doing.
Both are part of their story.
M + P were also the absolute sweetest couple to welcome me into Colorado. Moving my business from Georgia to Denver meant starting over in a lot of ways, and having my first Colorado session be this relaxed and personal felt like such a good beginning.
Now that I’m a Denver engagement photographer, I want to keep making space for sessions like this right alongside all the giant mountain views Colorado is known for.
Because yes, I will happily go somewhere gorgeous with you.
But Colorado engagement photos do not have to mean standing on top of a mountain.
You can stay home. You can play your favorite records. You can bring every single animal you own. You can cook dinner, make coffee, play instruments, or just show me what spending time together actually looks like.
M + P made that very easy to remember on my first session here.
